Our next concert is scheduled for 8th April. We will be perfoming an extensive programme which will include:
* Gabriel Faure's "Requiem" with its well known soprano movement "Pie Jesu" composed in 1887. We will also perform his "Cantique de Jean Racine" which he composed in 1864/65 when he was aged 19.
* Cesar Franck composed "Panis Angelicus" in 1872 taking the idea from a liturgy for the Feast of Corpus Christi by St Thomas Aquinus. It is a very popular piece.
* "All in the April Evening" by Hugh Roberton in 1911. Roberton was founder and conductor of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir. This piece was memorably sung by Aled Jones.
* Our final piece is by American composer Morten Luaridsen "Dirait On", the fifth part of a suite written in 1993 "Les Chasons des Roses" - settings of poems by Rainer Maria Rilke. It is a quiet contemplative song about appreciating the little things in life.
