We are a warm, friendly mixed voice choir of all ages, with a passion for singing.
Naturally, we are based in Hinckley and rehearse in the
United Reform Church, The Borough, on most Tuesday evenings
from 7:15 to 9:15 pm and perform three (sometimes 4!) concerts per year
often at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Leicester Road, but also at our rehearsal venue.
Our next rehearsal - - - Tuesday 18th March @ 7:15
Our next Concert - - - Friday 11th April - 'Easter Concert'
Hinckley Choral Union is a Registered Charity (Nº 1154110) organisation which seeks to
encourage the appreciation of choral music by the public and to afford an opportunity
for people to take part in the production of concerts.

The choir has a board of Trustees, a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. The concert programme content is decided by a committee of choir members which seeks to create a wide and varied repertoire.
Michelle Norton, Our Musical Director
Michelle has been immersed in music from a very early age, having started on Recorder at the age of 4, she moved to the Clarinet and then taught herself to play the Piano! When she was 12 Michelle won a scholarship to Trinity College of Music, London, studying Clarinet & Piano.

Although she only joined HCU in 2021, Michelle had previously worked with many choirs including a number of Salvation Army Choirs and Dagnall Community Choir, taking them to an award-winning performance in the Milton Keynes Music Festival. Her portfolio was recently expanded to include the Heart of England Singers.

Having achieved Grade 8 - distinction - Singing (ABRSM) she is now studying for the new FRSM Diploma. Michelle also takes singing pupils of all ages (currently 9 to 74!) and enjoys performing as a soloist whenever the opportunity arises.
Alec McGregor, Our Accompanist/Répétiteur
Alec started learning the piano at the age of 6 and worked up to Grade 8 while still at school. He sang with the school choir and was involved as accompanist in several shows, both at school and with a local drama group. He also began playing the organ for local churches. Before going up to Oxford, he achieved the Trinity College of Music Licentiate (LTCL) in piano performance.

Although studying engineering at university, he continued playing piano, getting involved with the college chapel choir (singing) and the Meryfield Choral Society (accompanying).

Since coming to Leicester in the 1970s, he has been involved as organist/accompanist at several churches, choirs and drama groups, which currently include St Peter's Braunstone, All Saints Thurlaston, Keyworth Choir, Kirby Muxloe Players, Purple Duck Productions and HCU of cource, joining us in 2011.

He had some success as one of six finalists in the BBC Radio 3 Carol Competition in both 2015 and 2017 (when it still required a full choral setting and not just a tune!) and we have successfully performed the 2015 carol several times.
Always looking for new members, we are non-auditioned, believing that there is
a 'song inside everyone'. If you are considering joining a choir,
we would love to hear from you.
